THE JAMAICA TRADE BOARD LIMITED RECOVERY ACTION PLAN

The Jamaica Trade Board Limited (JTBL) has implemented temporary emergency trade facilitation measures to support national recovery efforts following the passage of Hurricane Melissa. These measures are intended to expedite the importation of essential recovery equipment and ensure continuity in commercial operations during the rebuilding period.

Since November 4, 2025, to February 4, 2026, the requirement for import permits for heavy-duty equipment and trucks has been temporarily suspended to accelerate the importation process.

However, the following conditions remain in effect:

  • Age limits for used heavy-duty equipment and trucks:
    • 3,001–6,000 kg: Maximum 20 years
    • 6,001–8,000 kg: Maximum 25 years
    • Over 8,000 kg: Maximum 30 years
    • Heavy-duty equipment: Maximum 30 years

  • Mandatory Sanitization: All used equipment must undergo sanitization upon arrival to maintain public health and environmental safety.

In addition, motor vehicle and scrap metal dealership certifications expiring between October 20, 2025 and December 31, 2025 have been temporarily extended until February 20, 2026 to support operational stability during recovery.

The Jamaica Trade Board Limited remains committed to supporting national rebuilding efforts.
